Why Parenting Support?
In recent years there has been an increasing recognition that stresses outside of the workplace impact on employees’ performance at work. This has prompted top organisations to provide supportive counselling packages through employee assistance programmes. Unfortunately, this counselling may fail to address a key source of personal stress: family & parenting concerns. Two thirds of 800 employee assistance clients in one study reported having considerable or ‘extreme’ family difficulties and felt they needed services for these difficulties.
Generic counselling services will rarely directly target the child behavioural difficulties which can drain parent employees’ energy and cause them anxiety, tiredness and tension. This is concerning for organisations; demands associated with parenting have been found to be a key source of negative family “spill over” in the workplace, causing distractibility, poor concentration, lower productivity and less job commitment.
How Can PSS Support Our Organisation?
PSS strives to lessen the impact of family stresses on workplace performance through practical, professional parent employee support options which focus directly on bringing about positive changes in family life. All corporate services are provided by a Chartered Clinical Psychologist who works exclusively with parents and children.
- In-house Practical Parenting Skills Workshops. Parenting workshops are an excellent way to show you support and value your parent employees. Workshops will be carefully tailored to your organisations’ specific needs and you can select either ‘one-off’ parenting workshops on discrete topics (eg tantrum taming or sleep support) or a skill-based course of linked workshops. Lunch time sessions can be arranged.
- Sensitive Individual Parenting Support. Practical, professional support is available for employees for whom family or parenting concerns are impacting on their job role. Support options include sensitive face-to-face support or convenient remote assistance via telephone and email.
